KNOLE PARK GOLF CLUB

ADDITIONAL LOCAL RULES

In addition to the Rules laid down by R&A Rules Limited and Knole Park Terms of Competition the following Local Rules will apply:

1. Out of Bounds (Rule 18.2)

A) Beyond the line of the retaining wall in front of the Clubhouse and on or over the pathway surrounding the Practice Putting Green.
B) Beyond the white posts to the right of the 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 14th holes and beyond the green of the 7th hole.
C) On or over all walls and fences forming the boundary of the course.

2. Penalty Areas (Rule 17)

A) The ponds on the 4th, 8th, 9th, 11th and 13th holes are red penalty areas.
B) The ditch to the rear of the 14th green is a red penalty area

As an additional relief option for a ball laying in the red penalty areas on the 4th and 14th holes, the player may drop the original ball or another ball in the nearest drop zone. The dropping zone is a relief area under rule 14.3.

3. Abnormal Course Conditions (Rule 16)

Ground Under Repair

A) Areas enclosed by white lines, stakes and/or indicated by GUR notices.
B) Damage that is caused by animal hoofs is ground under repair from which free relief is allowed under Rule 16.1 but on the putting green, Rule 16.1 does not apply and any such damage shall be repaired under rule 13.1. Relief shall be taken in the same area of the course that the ball originally lies in accordance with Rule 16.1.

As an additional relief option for a ball laying in GUR a drop zone may be provided, where the player may drop the original ball or another ball in the nearest drop zone. The dropping zone is a relief area under rule 14.3.

Immovable Obstructions

A) All artificially surfaced roads and paths including the steps from the 4th Tee to the 3rd Fairway and the steps down from the 5th Tee.
B) Steps on the left of the 3rd Green leading to the 3rd Green.
C) All fixed course furniture including the bells on holes 3 and 18.
D) Stakes and guards protecting trees.
E) Yardage plates on the fairway.
F) Steps into bunkers. Note: These are not considered to be part of the bunker.
G) Fixed sprinkler heads on the line of play for a ball in the General Area - if the obstruction is within two club-lengths of the putting green, and within two club-lengths of the ball and both the ball and obstruction are in areas cut to fairway height or less.

No Play Zones

A) The area to the right of the first hole as defined by blue posts is a No Play Zone and free relief is available in accordance with 16.1f. Where it is known or virtually certain that a ball is laying within the No Play Zone and is not found Rule 16.1e applies.

As an additional relief option for a ball laying in the No Play Zone, a drop zone may be provided, where the player may drop the original ball or another ball in the nearest drop zone. The dropping zone is a relief area under rule 14.3.

Temporary Immovable Obstructions

A) Where the committee defines an obstruction as temporary, whether by notice or signage, model local rule F-23 applies and relief for line of sight interference is available either side of the obstruction. Drop Zones are to be used only in cases of physical interference from any GUR or No Play Zones.

4. Preferred Lies (Model Local Rule E3)

Between 1st October and 31st May inclusive, or as directed by the committee, when a player’s ball lies in a part of the general area cut to fairway height or less, the player may take free relief once by placing the original ball or another ball in and playing it from this relief area:

Reference Point: Spot of the original ball
Size of Relief Area Measured from Reference Point: 6 inches from the reference point, but with these limits:
• Limits on Location of Relief Area:
• Must not be nearer the hole than the reference point, and
• Must be in the general area.

In proceeding under this Local Rule, the player must choose a spot to place the ball and use the procedures for replacing a ball under Rules 14.2b(2) and 14.2e.

5. Fairway Mats (Model Local Rule E12)

Where the committee mandates the use of fairway mats, for a particular area, this shall be communicated by notice and signage. When a player’s ball lies in a part of the general area cut to fairway height or less, in that area, and a putter is not being used for the stroke, the player must take free relief by lifting the original ball and placing the original ball or another ball on an artificial mat and play it from there. The mat must be placed on top of the spot where the ball came to rest. If a ball when placed rolls off the mat, the player must try to place it a second time. If the ball again does not stay on the mat, the mat must be moved to the nearest spot, not nearer the hole, where the ball will come to rest on the mat when placed. If the ball on the mat is accidentally moved before a stroke is made, there is no penalty and the ball must be placed again on the mat. If a tee is used to secure the mat into the ground, the ball must not be placed on the tee.

6. Hole Closures

Where the committee have prevented the play of a hole the following procedures shall be applied.

In matchplay – hole is halved
In strokeplay – players shall be scored a net par for the hole.

7. Flags Positions

Red - Front, White - Middle, Blue - Back.

8. Yardage Plates

Red, yellow and blue plates indicate 100, 150 and 200 yards to the centre of the green respectively.

9. Etiquette

A) Golfers should make themselves aware of the public rights of way prior to play.
B) If unseen by the Greenkeepers please make them aware of your presence before playing your shot.
C) In competition play before hitting a tee-shot over the tree line on the corner of the 11th Hole you must ensure that the approach, Ladies’ tee (12th) and the green are clear before playing. In general play please refrain from taking this line purposefully when playing a tee-shot.
